Only organizations like the CDC and those working to contain COVID-19 have access to this novel strain of coronavirus to test, so PhoneSoap has not tested and therefore, cannot claim that our products kill COVID-19. That being said, we do know that coronavirus is an enveloped virus, similar to Influenza A (H1N1) which we have tested and know that PhoneSoap kills at a 99.99% reduction rate.
We believe that phone and hand hygiene are inseparably connected and that keeping your phone sanitized is just as important as washing your hands, particularly at this time.

We can’t help but touch dirty things. The problem is when we touch our phones and pass along the germs from our hands to our devices. It’s easy to wash our hands, but we don’t wash our phones. Those germs on our devices thrive and spread and can make us sick.
The average phone is crawling with 18 times more bacteria than a public restroom. That means you’re just as likely to get sick from your phone as from the handles in the bathroom. Your phone breeds more bacteria, too. Your phone’s battery keeps it warm, and when it's stored in balmy, dark spaces like your pocket or purse, it creates even more germs.

"I had the director of a local laboratory swab the screen of my iPhone XL and the back of my Speck Ultra Presidio case with sterile swabs. I then placed my iPhone X into the PhoneSoap 3.0 and patiently awaited the 10 minutes. At that point, the lid was opened, the front of the iPhone X was swabbed, and then the sides were gripped, and the back was swabbed. The pre-UV cleaned samples were not as spectacular as those seen before the PhoneSoap XL testing. However, neither of the post-UV cleaned specimens had any bacterial growth. Similar to the experiment with the PhoneSoap XL, the PhoneSoap 3.0 did not disappoint."

There are three UV light wavelength categories: UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. The UV-C wavelength is the germicidal wavelength. UV-C utilizes short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (shorter than UV-B and UV-A which are NOT germicidal) that is harmful to microorganisms. Let's find out how!
UV-C is a short-wavelength, ultraviolet light that breaks apart germ DNA. With broken DNA, the germs die because they can't function or reproduce. UV-C can even neutralize “superbugs” that have developed a resistance to antibiotics.

Sanitizing with UV-C light has been a normal practice since the mid-20th century (in fact, the 1903 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to Niels Finsen for for using UV light to the fight against tuberculosis). Today, hospitals and labs use UV light to keep their facilities sterile.
Your phone's warmth allows bacteria to stay alive and reproduce. UV-C light penetrates the cell and disrupts the DNA, killing the pathogen. Equally important, our UV-C light does not get hot, so while it is extremely effective at killing germs, it will not hurt your phone.

Yes, PhoneSoap is completely safe for your phone. PhoneSoap doesn't use water or chemicals – it uses UV-C light. UV light kills germs but doesn't harm you or your device. This light is completely safe for anything you place inside – except germs.
UV light can potentially cause discoloration with continuous, prolonged exposure to lightly pigmented plastics. However, it would take many continuous hours of exposure to have this effect, similar to leaving your phone exposed to the sun over a consistently prolonged duration. Some materials are more photosensitive than others such as ceramics or products that change color in the sun. These specialty materials may exhibit color changes more rapidly when exposed to UV light. When you close the lid of your unit, the UV lights will turn on for pre-programmed amount of time and automatically shut off when done. This is more than enough time to completely sanitize your phone and kill all the germs, but it is never enough time to damage your gadgets. You can feel confident your phone is safe inside, but the germs are not!

Yes! In fact we encourage you to keep your phone case on your phone while you use PhoneSoap. Our case is where we pass most of the germs from our hands. PhoneSoap was designed to fit your phone with the case on. If you have a thicker case with additional accessories like a pocket socket then please refer to the PhoneSoap 3 dimensions to make sure it will meet your needs.

The PhoneSoap 3 has the same beautiful design as the PhoneSoap 2 and still contains the same powerful UV-C germicidal lights that will sanitize your phone is 10 mins. However, there are three main differences to the PhoneSoap 3 including:
1. Chord Management - PhoneSoap 3 has improved its chord management by creating a passage for the chord to pass out the side of the device instead of needing to be threaded through. This improves the user experience and allows you more easily attach your phone to the charging cable while using the PhoneSoap.
2. Additional Charging Port - An additional port has been added to the back of the phone to transform the device into a charging hub. This allows you to charge multiple devices at the same time.
3. An Included Microfiber Pad - The microfiber cloth surrounds a foam pad making it easy to clean your device screens and remove any unwanted smudges especially in those hard to get areas without damaging or scratching the surface.

All smartphones will fit in any of the PhoneSoap units. However, if you have a thick case or thick accessory like a Pop Socket, you may want to sanitize those separately from your phone, or you can purchase the HomeSoap, which will accommodate for all phones and thick smartphone accessories.

Yes, charge your phone by connecting your charging cord to your phone and then plug it into the universal USB charging port on the back of the PhoneSoap. If you put in a device other than a phone (a point and shoot camera, an iPod) that charges through USB, you can also charge it inside PhoneSoap.
